DESCRIPTION:  \n2017  NCDL Tournament of Champions\n\nHillview Middle School\, 1100 Elder Ave\,  Menlo Park\nDebate Events:  Parliamentary Debate\nThree Divisions:\n\nNovice\nJV\nVarsity\n\n\nDay 1 ~ Saturday\, June 3rd\, 2017: 8:30 am – ca. 6 pm\n\nCheck In:  8:30 am in the PAC Lobby (Performing Arts Center)\nAwards Ceremony at ca. 5 pm\n\nAll students will compete for 5 Preliminary rounds\, followed by Best Speaker awards.  The top teams will advance to the Single Elimination Finals on Day 2.\nAll students are encouraged to observe the finals and cheer for their teammates.\n\n\n\n\nDay 2 ~ Sunday\, June 4th\, 2017: 10 am – ca 5 pm\n\nRoll Call:  10 am in the PAC\nFinal Awards Ceremony at ca. 4 pm\n\nThe top teams return for the single elimination finals (Quarters\, Semis 1st & 2nd). All rounds are immediately followed by awards.  The day ends with a Championship round for 1st & 2nd place.\nJudges are required to stay until the end of the event\, event if their child was eliminated.\n\n\n\n\nWe will provide (some free\, some not):  Baked Goods\, Fruit\, Snacks\, Pizza\, Sandwiches\, Onigiri\, Hamburgers\, Hot Dogs\, Coffee\, Tea & Assorted Drinks\n\nDiscount Deadline:  Tuesday\, 5/30/17 \nRegistration & Payment Deadline:  Thursday\, 6/1/17 \n  \nDebaters please read:  Debater Information \nDebaters Dress Code & What to Bring see:  Debaters Preparation \nDebaters practice with:  Debate Steps & Tips     Debate Terms     Debate Topics \nJudges please read:  Judge Information \n\nParticipation Requirements\n\nStudents need to have earned the required minimum TOC points.\nStudents must register by the deadline.\nAll fees must be paid by Saturday\, 6/3 at Check-In.\nNEW – Volunteer Requirement:  Each Debater needs to have 1 adult that will volunteer to fill and complete 1 Spot/Task on Sign-up.com for this tournament. This requirement is in addition to the judging requirement.\n\nWhy?  Our tournaments are parent-run and can only be successful with the help of volunteers.\n\n\nJudging Requirement:  Each Debater needs to have 1 adult\, who will be available to judge all rounds.\nGuardian Requirement:  Each Debater needs to have 1 adult present\, who will be responsible for them while at the tournament. The Guardian does not have to be a parent and except for “Hired Judges”\, the Judge and Guardian can be the same person.\nDebaters\, Judges and Guardians (if not Judge) need to be present for the entire Debate Tournament. No late starts or leaving early\, even for lunch!\n\nPayments\n\nPayment Deadline:  Thursday\, 6/1/17 at 9 pm\n\n\n\n\nCheck & Google Wallet Discount\nPay by:\n$5 off\n\n\nPer student\nTuesday\, 5/30\n1 student = $5 off\n2 students = $10 off\n\n\n\n\nLate Payment Fee:  $25 if paid on Friday\, 6/2/17\nReally Late Payment Fee:  $35 if paid on Saturday\, 6/3/17\nAdministrative Fee:  $10 for any payment follow-ups/corrections.\n\nParticipation Fee\n\nWhy?  To help cover the cost of the tournament including the awards\, supplies and use of facilities.\nCovers a couple of Snacks and Drinks\, as well as Lunch for 1 Debater on both days. \n$150 Participation Fee\n\n\n\n\nEarly Reg Discount\nRegister & Pay by:\n$50 off\n\n\nPer student\nTuesday\, 5/30\n$150 – $50 = $100\n\n\n\n\nParticipation Fee NOT refundable after:  Tuesday\, 5/30/17\nParticipation Fee due on:  Thursday\, 6/1/17 at 9 pm\n\nDropping Out\n\nDrop with a Full Refund by:  Tuesday\, 5/30/17 at 11:59 pm\nRefunds will be processed within 14 days after the tournament.\nPlease inform the Tournament Director: Brier Buchalter and if applicable your child’s debate partner’s parents\, in case your child can’t participate after all.  It affects tournament planning on various levels (partnering debaters\, preparing materials\, pairing the first round\, ordering trophies\, etc.) – Thank you!\n\nHired Judges\n\nWhy? An option for those that can’t fill the judging requirement.\nWe have a limited number of Hired Judges.\n\nThere is NO Guarantee that we will have extra judges to cover your judging requirement.\nOnly the first 20 requests are guaranteed.\n\n\nPrerequisite: Please indicate your request on the registration form by: Thursday\, 6/1/17 at 9 pm\nJudges can NOT be hired on the day of the tournament\, unless it’s an EMERGENCY.\nHired Judges can NOT be Guardians!\n$300 Hired Judge Fee\n\n\n\n\nEarly Hired Judge Discount\nRequest & Pay by:\n$100 off\n\n\nPer request\nTuesday\, 5/30\n$300 – $100 = $200\n\n\n\n\n$350 Last Minute Hired Judge Request – if hired on:  Friday\, 6/2/17\n$400 Emergency Hired Judge Request – if hired on:  Saturday\, 6/3/17\nCancel Hired Judge Request for a Full Refund by:  Tuesday\, 5/30/17 at 11:59 pm\nRequests made after Tuesday\, 5/30 are NOT refundable!\nHired Judge Fee due on:  Thursday\, 6/1/17 at 9 pm\n\nScholarships\n\nWe are happy to offer up to Full scholarships helping with the\nRegistration Fee\, Judging Requirement\, Lunch\, Needed Materials\, Clothes\nOur scholarships are 100% financial need based and handled confidentially.\nWe never\, EVER turn away a debater to financial consideration.
